However, the REALLY weird thing is that in System Preferenes, after resetting the printing system, when I attempt to add the printer using the Printer & Fax option, it occasionally lists the i560, but lists it incorrectly.Īs it does when things are working properly, it lists the printer as:Ĭanon i560 Mark’s Computer Bonjour SharedĪs if it is plugged directly into my computer (which it is not).
When checking on the printer using Airport Utility, when I go to the Printer tab under manual set-up it says that there is no USB printer attached, so for some reason it is not sensing the printer attached.
As I hadn’t previously checked for updated drivers, I downloaded and installed the most current driver I could find for the i560 from the Canon Hong Kong website (I live in Beijing). In further searching online I found a link to the document, “Printer Troubleshooting for Airport Base Stations and Time Capsule”:Īnd worked through all the steps outlined there. This time repairing permissions was of no help. The printer worked fine then, but a few days later it stopped printing again in the middle of a page and upon checking the Print Monitor I discovered that once again it couldn't get past trying to connect.
Discoonnecting and reconnecting power and USB cables were of no use, though, and when I deleted the printer from the printer list, it would not reappear again in the list of printers to choose from to add, nor would it be listed in Airport Utility as a printer connected to the Time Capsule.Īfter searching for solutions online, I found the document "Troubleshooting Printing Problems in Mac OS X":Īnd after trying a number of suggested solutions I regained the ability to print after I repaired my disk permissions. Jobs that I sent to the printer would not print and when I would check the Print Monitor I would discover that it could not get past trying to connect. With the previous wireless network when the printer was plugged into the Airport Extreme, any time I lost the ability to print I could restore printing by either disconnecting and reconnecting power and USB cables or deleting the printer from the printer list in System Preferences and re-adding it.Īfter just a couple of days using the new configuration, I lost the ability to print. In my previous wireless network I used the Airport Extreme to connect to the internet and printer, but in the new network I use the Time Capsule for these functions. (The Time Capsule and Airport Extreme are both set up as dual band 2.4GHz/5GHz because my other computer is an iBook and cannot access using 5GHz.) Before setting up the network I reset each device to factory settings.
